Trilby Elliot, an independent trader, is making some not-quite-legal modifications to her starfreighter when an unexpected visitor crashes onto the uninhabited planet of Avanar. The visitor is Rhis Vanur, a Zafharin military officer, whose presence is surprising given the long-standing war between the Zafharin and the 'Sko. Despite his typical arrogance, Rhis doesn't look down on Trilby or her ship, which intrigues her. However, Trilby is wary of his offer to help, knowing that men like him don't usually take notice of someone like her. /n/nWhen Trilby learns that her best friend is missing and that the 'Sko are hunting both her and Rhis, she realizes she has no choice but to team up with him. Together, they must navigate a dangerous web of deceit and danger, fighting for their lives against overwhelming odds.
