About Good-Books

Good-Books is our attempt to merge the latest technology with very human content — the thoughts and discoveries of readers, reviewers, and list-makers everywhere.

Every title on Good-Books starts its life here because it’s appeared on a list. You know the sort of thing: “The best [genre] books of the year”, “20 Political Economics books to read before you die”, or “The Diddly Squatmouse Prize for 300-page books published on a Thursday.” Some are serious, some are subjective, and some are gloriously tenuous — but each one means that, out of the millions of books out there, this particular book was chosen. That already makes it a little special.

Then we (human editors and our artificially intelligent minions) start digging. We find out what people think, read their reviews, summarise their key points, and collect the ratings. We also look for other lists where the book pops up. Because if one of those heavyweight economics titles also happens to appear on “Top Summer Holiday Page-Turners”, it’s probably worth a second look, right?

That’s what ends up on a book’s page at Good-Books — a constantly growing mix of information, opinion, and curiosity, all there to help you decide whether this is the next book for you.

And maybe, just maybe, you will buy it.

Affiliate Links

When we have the information, we include links to a few trusted places where you can buy the book, along with prices that are usually checked and updated within the last couple of days.

If you click one of those links and buy a book, we might earn a small commission. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, and we don’t get any personal information about you when you do. Currently, we link to three retailers:.

  • Waterstones - keeping real bookshops alive on high streets across the UK, and running an online store that’s genuinely a pleasure to use.
  • Bookshop.org - an online bookstore that exists to support local bookshops. Yes, really. Pick a bookshop when you buy and they’ll receive almost as much of the profit as if they’d sold it themselves. They match our commission too, adding it to a shared pot for participating bookshops each month.
  • Amazon - love it or loathe it, Amazon has amazing inventory and is often the quickest route to getting that specific book to your door, sometimes before your laptop has even powered down.
